Janet O. Welch, SPHR, SHRM-SCP
HR Consultant
Janet Welch brings clients over 15 years of HR generalist and management experience within the education, healthcare, and manufacturing fields. She provides both strategic and comprehensive, hands-on HR expertise including developing and implementing HR strategic plans to support organizational strategy, developing and streamlining HR practices, staffing, employee relations, HR information systems, management training, project management, and internal communications. Janet consistently brings a high level of enthusiasm, optimism, dedication, and accountability to her work, with a knack for working through tough obstacles, and passion for helping clients to achieve their goals. Janet recently completed a high-intensity project with The HRC for a nonprofit client, employing 64 clinical staff in 35 workdays, saving almost $1MM in overtime/year.
Prior to consulting, Janet led the HR function for Porter and Chester Institute with 450 staff across nine school campuses in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Within one year, she quickly and successfully completed an internal HR Audit, brought the department into compliance, filled key positions with high caliber talent, improved communications and employee morale, installed an HRIS system to streamline HR processes and communications between departments and employees, established safety committees to educate employees on important safety policies and procedures, and lowered safety incident rates. For the prior decade, Janet was recruited by the American Group, a 250 staff employee, privately held 24/7 emergency medical services organization as HR Director to ensure compliance while overseeing all staffing, employee relations, training, and safety [stabilizing high workers’ compensation rates] where she implemented an HRIS system, stabilized turnover, transformed HR systems and practices, and together with operations, installed a highly successful mentor program. Janet began her HR career as a Personnel Assistant for Ozone Industries [a BBA US Holdings Company] where she was charged with taking over HR administration and staffing the newly-located organization. Additionally, Janet spent five years working in Denmark within the manufacturing and retail fields.
Since 2014, Janet has been chosen to serve as a consultant to the Connecticut Society for Human Resource Management’s [SHRM] State Council where she supports both the State Director and Board to implement programs, webinars, and conferences while serving as a liaison between the state and national associations. Janet also has been a member of The Human Resource Leadership Association of Eastern Connecticut (HRLA) since 2000, a Board member since 2009, and served as its Chapter President for four years during which time she grew membership from 65 to 250. She has continually supported HR best-practice events in Connecticut and was recently appointed 2018 SHRM TriState Conference Coordinator to support a highly successful multi-state, three-day 5-track, HR educational conference.
A graduate of The Rhode Island Business Institute, Janet earned her Senior Professional in Human Resources Certification (SPHR) from the HR Certification Institute in 2009 and her SHRM-SCP Certification in 2015. In 2015, Janet was invited as a panel participant at The HR Exchange in Boca Raton, FL on the topic of Risks: Man-Made and Natural Disasters. She also serves as the Connecticut State Director for the Sons and Daughters of Pearl Harbor Survivors.
