Nancy M. Martone, MS, SPHR
Healthcare Practice Leader and Executive Coach
Nancy M. Martone has over thirty years of experience as a health care leader and organization strategist. She began to consult in 2023 to bring her leadership experience with mission-driven organizations to identify and operationalize strategic goals that positively impact employees, clients, customers, and communities. Her expertise lies in aligning culture, leadership, and structure with strategy for overall operational efficacy. This includes organization assessment and design, strategic planning, change management, organizational communications, human resource management, employee relations and labor management, physician relations, leadership coaching, and development at all levels of leadership in the organization.
Prior to consulting, Nancy held clinical and administrative leadership roles in multiple healthcare organizations. Her most recent role as the Chief Administrative Officer and VP of HR at Hospital for Special Care (HFSC) was focused on strategic human resource initiatives and hospital operations including organization design, performance management, and outpatient oversight. Working with the CEO, she played a key role in business and strategic planning and execution. During the COVID-19 Pandemic, Nancy collaborated with outpatient department chiefs to create outpatient closing and reopening plans in alignment with the Governor’s Recovery Plan. Her prior accomplishments for HFSC included creating an HR strategy to elevate HR from a transactional department to a strategic business partner model and developing a talent management strategy to ensure the hospital had the talent to become a high performing and high reliability organization. This created an employee culture that earned HFSC a Top Workplace award for over 10 years. Previously, she streamlined physician onboarding at Eastern Connecticut Healthcare and implemented Physician Manager Software to improve the quality of hires, reduce cycle time, and reduce reliance on agencies by 25% with a significant cost reduction. Beginning her career as a respiratory therapist, Nancy has over 30 years of experience working within the healthcare industry including Quality, Risk, Care Management, Patient Relations/Satisfaction, Organization Redesign, Human Resources, and Healthcare Operations.
Nancy received her MS in Organizational Communication from Central Connecticut State University and a BS with a concentration in Business from Charter Oak State College. She holds a Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) certification and is a trained coach through the Co-active Training Institute. Throughout her career she served on many boards including The Hispanic Health Council, CT Business Group on Health, Capital Workforce Partners, and the CT Healthcare Human Resources Council. She is an active member of the Society for Human Resources Management and the American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration.
