Shanon Cornell brings more than fifteen years of professional, broad-based and progressively driven HR experience with a focus in compensation. As a compensation professional, she brings knowledge and experience in creation, updating, and compliance of job descriptions, job evaluation, job matching, market pricing, data analytics, pay structure design, job level structure redesign, and more to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. Additionally, she brings expertise as a F100 HR Business Partner and HR Communications Specialist.
Before joining The Human Resource Consortium, Shanon’s experience has included working for organizations including governmental, engineering services, high tech, manufacturing, nonprofit, and retail sectors. Her HR and Compensation responsibilities have included major projects aligned to strategy and the market to enhance attraction, acquisition, engagement, and retention of great employees. To ensure successful completion, these projects required Shanon to work and effectively communicate cross-functionally and with senior leaders.
Shanon began her career as a Night Manager and Volunteer Coordinator for East Alabama Task Force for Battered Women. Additionally, she worked as the Supplemental Security Income (SSA) Project Director for the Lee-Russell Council of Governments after which she joined Lexmark International as a Talent Acquisition Specialist from which she was promoted to Compensation Analyst, serving as a key partner in driving change for a state-of-the-art compensation redesign, advising management on pay and performance, and conducting sales/commission compensation analysis. Shanon was then recruited by GE to utilize her HR and interpersonal communications strengths to support strategy and leaders by spearheading plant-based succession planning, implementing employee engagement surveys and 360 reviews, overseeing total rewards, and facilitating employee relations. Within a year, Shanon was promoted to HR Business Partner including Compensation, Workforce Planning & Talent Acquisition, Onboarding, Career Development, Performance Management, Employee Relations, and Management Coaching. Shanon was next recruited to focus on her number one passion, compensation, by Hibbett/City Gear with 1,100 retail stores and 11,000 employees across 40 states in the US, serving as their primary compensation professional. Most recently, she has been working as the head of compensation for a large consultancy within the power industry, conducting market pricing and compression analysis, designing pay structures, developing and delivering compensation training for managers, and creating a spot bonus rewards program.
Shanon earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Auburn University and her Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management from Troy University. Additionally, Shanon completed her HR-Compensation Metrics Management Certification as well as additional training in Workplace Investigations, Employee Relations Leadership, Crucial Conversations, and Emotional Intelligence with DiSC. She maintains membership in the Society for Human Resource Management. When she is not working to grow her knowledge as a compensation professional, she spends time with family and enjoys life on a lake.
