In 2022, The HRC was engaged to conduct a complex and time-sensitive search for a large nonprofit where they’d struggled to find the right balance of strengths in leadership and deep subject matter expertise for a Senior Director role. We quickly interviewed executive team members and the direct reports to understand the range of existing needs and dynamics. And, given our prior organizational development work with this client which further informed us of managerial and front line staff issues, we were able to discern the needed mindset, interpersonal style, and needed skillsets to lead a significant, complex, and large-scale change effort in the largest segment of the organization. Within 3 months, we identified, conducted deep interviews, and thoroughly credentialed four (4) candidates which comprised a diverse slate. Within 4 months, one candidate withdrew due to work demands and three completed first round interviews. Two of the three were invited for a final interview. Based upon the exceptional fit of leadership and change management expertise, style, and deep subject matter expertise of one of the finalists, the executive team elected to elevate the role to Chief Administrator and member of the executive team. This finalist was 100% to accept the original position and 1000% in his acceptance of the elevated role. Months later, he reports he couldn’t be happier and is seen as ‘amazing’ by the executive team.
