Ruminating on conversations I began having in 1994 with HR leaders about starting a boutique consulting firm to bring integrated systems into HR, I vividly recall coming up against significant incomprehension and skepticism. In my experience in Operations and Market Research, integrated systems methodology sped process and enhanced results… why wouldn’t it work in HR where the sub-functions tended to be siloed and HR was seen as a high cost center?
On March 21, 1995, we founded The Human Resource Consortium, LLC – the first comprehensive and integrated HR & OD boutique consultancy on the U.S. East Coast. It requires an unusual team of individuals who believe the team’s collective strength will result in far more value than the sum of the parts. The early years were not easy, yet we persisted and progressed. I recall a statement of an Organization Development leader of a G50 organization who we met with saying, “Silos? No, we have nuclear armaments here.” We fixed that shortly thereafter! We’ve survived three recessions and Covid. And, through it all, we’ve led significant transformation in HR and OD for many clients while serving volunteer leadership roles for HR & OD professional associations.
